Once everything is protected, you can either wet the popcorn ceilings to remove the texture or dry scrape. This process will have to be determined at home. Once wet, the popcorn ceiling is simply scraped off and falls to the floor. When we remove popcorn ceilings, the remnants are cleaned up immediately to minimize dust travel and protect your family’s health. Next, the ceilings are left to dry, which is usually an overnight process. Afterward, the ceiling is floated with a mud compound to protect the substrate and provide a sand-able surface.
The process depends on which ceiling refinished look you want to achieve. Would you prefer a light orange peel textured ceiling? Or would you prefer a Spanish-style texture placed onto your ceiling? After the finished texture has been applied, it is time to prime.
