Touch Up Your Room’s Painted Walls the Fast and Easy Way

Nothing pleases a home designer more than taking on a personal home project. Be it from constructing their own furniture, retiling their kitchen and bathroom floor, or landscaping their front yard, the satisfaction they get, once they see how well they tackled their tasks, always manages to put a smile on their faces. However, doing a project as big as these is not as easy as it sounds. A lot of time, resources, and energy are put into these processes, which can possibly discourage homeowners from continuing with their plans.

Now, although touching up the paint in your rooms is simpler than the home design projects mentioned before, it still needs to be treated with the same concentration and precision. Luckily, unlike these bigger tasks, a touch up can be done with speed and ease. By following these steps, you will be able to create the perfect ambiance you have always wanted, in no time.

Things you’ll need for the best painted walls:

Tips on Touching Up the Paint

Preparing the walls and space

Before you begin painting, place the drop cloth on your floors and over your furniture in order to keep them safe from paint spills. Once that is done, mix the dishwashing liquid into the bucket of water and begin cleaning the walls. As much as possible, remove all blemishes and substances that can get in the way when you paint. After that, dry the walls by rubbing on the painted walls softly.

Priming the surface

Pour the primer into a paint tray and roll a paint roller through it in an up and down motion to remove excess primer on its material. If your walls have dark marks, use a stain-killing paint primer. The next step is to saturate the roller without soaking it to the point of ripping. Once that is done, apply a single coat of primer onto the washed area, and then leave it to dry.

Opening the Can of Paint

If your paint cans were not used for several months, it is wise to turn them upside down, for about 20 minutes, before opening. If it is a new can of paint, however, you may immediately open it and then continue on the next process.

Prepping the Paint

Stir the paint with a paint stirrer or dowel for five minutes, but if you want better results, you may take the can to a home improvement store, to have them shook. Pour the paint into the tray, and just like what you have done with the primer, have your roller saturate in it.

Painting Process

Once you have enough paint on your roller, apply it over the primed area in a diagonal motion. You then blend the paint by rolling out from the center of the touch up area with a clean paint roller – lifting away from the painted walls as you reach the edges of its surface. Lastly, use a flat-edge paint brush to blend the paint that is located on the surrounding wall. Wait for the paint to dry before applying the second coat in the same method.

Things to Remember: Use the ladder if you do not have a paint roller long enough to reach the highest points of your walls. Also, if you wish to create intricate patterns and designs, you use the tape in order to achieve those effects.
